Hold face

My nerves are strained to the cut
For the fear of tomorrow grips me
These eyes peer into the infinite
And they are daunted by magnitude
How finite the heart is, in the face of oblivion
My eyes squint in search of a path
How tiny man is, at the foot of a mountain
My chin is raised to stare at the possibility
And my veins are flooded with an urgency
For I lift my voice high
And to those that walk the path, I declare

Follow me!
Tapping harder on my chest, I command
Align your hearts with my arm
For it points to our salvation
Align your hearts with my gaze
For it looks to our redemption
Do not be daunted by the infinite that exists in our face
Do not bow to this present reality, or any for that stead
Do not let it see your heart
For though fear resides at the mountain base, courage will drown it out
Courage has to drown it out

But my heart still peers at my words
They look to the strange sounds that emanate from me
They reach for it, and gently stroke it
For it is smooth to the touch
Comforting to the feel
Calming to the soul of those who perceive it
But it eludes my heart
It eludes the very core of me
For I am still distraught
My nerves are strained to the cut
For the fear of tomorrow grips me

Hold face, young man
Let the day stay oblivious to your heart
And maybe time will grace you with belief
Maybe time will grace you with courage
That the mountain may be traversed
And the infinite, comprehended
